STORY

Former football ace Mario adds this touch of ambition to the small group of casual online gamers around Cruiser and Fanny when learning about the Super Bowl level price money there is at stake.

Cruiser’s garage converted internet café feels like Foreman’s basement in ‘That 70’s show’ half a century later and equipped with the latest work stations and gaming memorabilia. It not only serves as the war room for their online MOBA (Multi-player Online Battle Arena) games, but also as the hideaway from the many set-backs the young adults suffer in the offline world.

The diverse team around the stereotypical online gamer Cruiser, the webcam porn actress and cos-player Fanny and the self-centric and money-driven newbie Mario embarks on its journey to become one of the best teams on the planet.

FORMAT

GotA consists of five 7min-episodes featuring fast paced dramedy (‘A comedy that is simply not funny’ as Fanny explains in the first episode) in a multi camera sitcom style. Everything happens in the garage of Cruiser’s foster home, which was remodeled to a private internet café.

In a comedic way GotA – Gods of the Arena counters popular stereotypes about online games and demonstrates that many of the soft skills one would only expect from traditional ‘offline’ sports are equally developed in eSports. The show’s targeted audience consists of online gamers just as much as of people new to online gaming and therefore does not feature tech gobbledygook… unless it’s funny, but shares the excitement for this relatively new wave in sports. It does though; mirror gaming style, fast paced storytelling and iconic characters.

RELEVANCE

The good old discussion about what it is cooler online vs board game as depicted by Reckless Tortuga in ‘The Online Gamer – Game Night’ (check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCYPGnJdO1U) inspired this episode. What do you think? Let’s talk about behavioral patterns another time…
