5 Biggest Offseason Signings In LoL History | LoL eSports

Once the off-season rolls around, teams start searching for players who have the ability to take their squad to the next level. Needing a change of scenery, or simply a free agent, big-name players have the opportunity to make an unexpected jump to a brand new team.
Whether these blockbuster signings paid off or not, the acquisition alone shook the framework of competitive League of Legends.

Here are the 5 Biggest Offseason Signings in LoL History.

5. Uzi Joins OMG

A star AD Carry in the LPL, Uzi started his career and blossomed with Royal Club. With different iterations of Royal, Uzi made two straight Worlds finals, but ending up falling short both times to SKT and Samsung respectively. Unable to win it all with Royal Club, Uzi bounced over to former Chinese rival OMG. At a time, where several LPL orgs were bringing in Korean talent, OMG chose to recruit Uzi and leave Royal searching for a new ADC.

4. Huni and Reignover Join Immortals

When Huni and Reignover joined Yellowstar on Fanatic, no one knew what expectations to set on the brand new roster. Of course, we know that they went on to make history. An 18-0 regular season followed up with a win over Origen in the ensuing finals and a quarterfinals sweep over EDG at Worlds. Even with the flurry of successful results, the iconic top/jungle duo left Fanatic for North America. They joined forced with Pobelter, Wildturtle and Adrian on the super team that was Immortals.

3. Peanut Joins SK Telecom

Coming off back-to-back World Championships, it’d be hard to upgrade SKT’s roster going into 2017. But with Bengi splitting from SKT after a long and prosperous stint, the best team in the World had a void in the jungle. Who better to join SKT than the man who nearly took down SKT in the 2016 semifinals. Incredibly aggressive and able to singlehandedly take over a game, Peanut joined SKT in hopes of earning a World title that he couldn’t grab with ROX.

2. Doublelift & Yellowstar Join TSM

The most dramatic and unexpected signing came off the back of CLG’s departure with their long-time star and front man, Doublelift. Following an ultimatum in which Aphromoo said, “It’s him or me”, CLG parted ways with Double who quickly joined NA powerhouse and rival organization, Team SoloMid. Viewed as a backstab by many, Doublelift immediately overtook the ADC position from WildTurtle. To further cement the insane signing, TSM followed suit by adding legendary EU support, Yellowstar, to play alongside Double in the bot lane.

1. KT Rolster Sign Smeb, PawN, Deft & Mata

Following a third World Championship win by SK Telecom, teams recognized that you’d have to be awfully good to be able to take down SKT. Coming off a heartbreaking end to the 2016 season as they just missed out on Worlds, KT Rolster went for a full rebuild. With only Score left over from the previous season, KT refused to settle for an ordinary roster, electing to sign stars at every position.
Smeb, PawN, Deft and Mata all joined forces and immediately were viewed as top tier contenders. Unfortunately for the Korean super team, the ending was awfully similar to that of 2016, in which they just narrowly missed out on Worlds.
