The Esports Industry Awards saw a few embarrassing failures this year from displaying the wrong individual in an award video to the questionable decision to award the Overwatch League grand finals as the live event of the year.
Toronto Esports has made a controversial exit from the Overwatch scene after being told that the Toronto Defiant has acquired exclusive naming rights along with an aggressive set of tweets and comments made the organization’s president on social media drawing commentary from members of the community on the statements that have been described as “cringe” and unprofessional.
We have asked Blizzard to fully confirm that this is their stance. We aren’t holding our breaths. We also feel they are displaying incompetence in developing a proper tier 2 talent development ecosystem.
