Competitive Fortnite Is A Joke – The Story of Fortnite eSports

In this video, I discuss the history of competitive Fortnite and its downfalls as an eSports. While Fortnite has been popular for more than a year, its competitive and esports scene is still extremely new and underdeveloped. After announcing $100 million in prizes for 2018 and 2019, Fortnite has largely come up short in establishing an actual competitive scene. At major LANs and tournaments, pro players were forced to use sponsored peripherals (mice and keyboards) and forced to play on high settings and native resolution. I talk about each event such as Winter Royale, Secret Skirmish, PAX West, TwitchCon, and the World Cup and why Epic has made each of these events and competitions extremely uncompetitive. These are the concerns and thoughts shared by of most competitive and pro players in the scene. I wrap up the video with a talk about the current meta in Fortnite including Epic banning stretched resolutions, ballers still being in the game, native resolution, arena mode, the loot pool, and everything else that relates to competitive. Overall though, it’s hard to take Fortnite esports and its competitive scene seriously now or at any point in the past.
