Ambrasia Multimedia, a company that finances content creators on the blockchain exchange, has announced the Street Fighter V: Road to Tokyo Asia Invitational 2019, a Capcom-licensed event that will see six nations compete against each other.

Online qualifiers will decide which players represent the six selected countries, with registration opening July 23rd and closing August 2nd. On August 30th, the national teams will battle it out to occupy the three slots in the invitational.

The Street Fighter V: Road to Tokyo Asia Invitational 2019 will take place at the Tokyo Game Show on September 12-15th. The three teams that qualify for the event will have all an-expenses-paid trip to Tokyo to compete.

Minsoo Kim, CEO of Ambrasia Multimedia commented on the event in a release: “This team format is a fantastic format which gives players the chance to represent their countries. Fans will be able to root for their national teams and dream about representing their country in the future.”

Ambrasia Multimedia will also produce a documentary that follows the invitational, highlighting the journeys of the players that compete throughout the process.

Capcom not only develops and publishes the Street Fighter franchise, it runs the Capcom Pro Tour – a competitive circuit that currently takes place on Street Fighter V. Players compete on the title throughout the year in an attempt to secure one of 32 qualification spots in the year-end Capcom Cup.

Esports Insider says: This is an interesting premise that we’ve seen plenty of times in other titles. Capcom licensing the event shows that it has some faith in the concept and it’ll be interesting to see how well it’s received, though it’ll most likely be quiet when it comes to receiving support and attention from the West.
