Shoot’em & Scoot’em Is a Recoil-Powered Platformer on Mobile!

Shoot’em & Scoot’em is a space-western puzzle platformer where your gun is also your movement button. There’s no jump button here at all. Every time you fire, the recoil sends you flying in the exact opposite direction, so shooting down launches you upward, while shooting right sends you scooting left.

Yes, it’s the other way round!

Shoot’em & Scoot’em is developed and published by indie studio StraySoftware. It’s now out on mobile and is also coming to PC later this year. Right now, the full version 1.0 release on mobile comes with 60 handcrafted levels.

Amidst all the shooting is a story that kicks off all the drama. Aliens have boarded your spaceship and stolen Scooty, your trusty robotic steed. So, now, you’re playing a space-faring Sheriff who has to grab the revolver, start blasting, travel across the universe, take down the alien invasion, and get your companion back.

So, everything you’re doing, you’re doing it in space, and your movement is powered entirely by gun recoil. You’ll travel through an asteroid field and land on an alien planet. There’s a mix of puzzles, obstacles and gunplay, with three different environments.

The levels also have moving platforms, portals, extra-ammo pickups, and sound-sensitive lasers that toggle on or off every time you shoot. You also get two different ways to shoot in Shoot’em & Scoot’em. Some levels want you to use the revolver for more precise shots, while others let you bring out the shotgun and just blast yourself across the universe.

If you just want to get to Scooty, you can focus on reaching the finish. If you want to properly master a level, though, you can wipe out every alien and earn all 3 stars. There’s also an endless mode to just keep climbing into outer space for as long as possible. There are 15 achievements, and some of them unlock hats that you can use to dress up your Sheriff.

Shoot’em & Scoot’em is now available on the Google Play Store. You can also play it fully offline.
