How To Get Food And Water In Subnautica 2

Are you wondering about how you can drink water and eat alien food in Subnautica 2? Similar to previous games in the series, your character is marooned in an ocean world and you need to find ways to survive. Things won’t be that easy, since humans can’t easily digest the meat from strange creatures.

Subnautica 2 survival guide: Food and water

If you’re playing on Creative Mode, then you shouldn’t worry about hunger and thirst at all. Your character, for all intents and purposes, is immortal.

In Survival Mode, however, things might be a little too challenging since you need to look for food and water items. These items can be crafted using a Fabricator, and the recipes that you unlock should appear in the device’s Sustenance tab. It’s also possible to find these consumables lying around as loot, such as those inside supply crates.

How to quench your thirst

Your character gets thirstier faster than they go hungry. That said, drinking water is easier to come by:

  • You just need to look for tiny Water Slugs on the seafloor. Each creature can be converted via the Fabricator into Water, which has a +40 value.
  • Later, once you’ve build a Processor, you’ll be able to make Water through an alternative recipe that costs 3x Fibrous Pulp.

How to alleviate your hunger

Food in Subnautica 2 is an entirely different matter due to a few complexities:

  • At the start of the game, your character can only digest Nutrient Blocks:
      • Nutrient Blocks grant +40 food. They’re primarily looted from supply crates and stashes, so keep your eyes peeled.
      • Once you have a Processor, you can produce Biofuel Blocks from organic materials, such as Fibrous Pulp and Pent. The Fabricator can then turn 1x Biofuel Block and 1x Salt into 1x Nutrient Block.
  • For the most part, though, you need to hunt various types of fish swimming around you. Examples include Geordies, Halfmoons, and Harvestmoons.
    • These creatures can be cooked via the Fabricator, and they grant +25 to 30 food.
    • There’s just one teensy-weensy problem: Whether they’re cooked or not, you won’t be able to digest alien fauna too easily.

Digestion Angel Comb

If you want to eat alien food, then you need to unlock an Adaptation that helps you acclimate more to this strange planet:

  • Swim approximately 160 meters north-northeast of your Lifepod. You’ll come across an organic creature known as an Angel Comb.
  • Interact with the large pink bulb to obtain the Digestion upgrade. This allows you to gobble up all sorts of flora and fauna to improve your character’s condition.
