Battlefield Movie Bidding War Heats Up, As These 5 Studios Reportedly Made Offers For It

The upcoming Battlefield movie is reportedly attracting a bidding war, and now the names of the five studios said to have submitted bids have emerged in new reporting.

The Wrap reports that Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony, Universal, and Netflix have all submitted bids to acquire the package. Christopher McQuarrie, known for his work on the Mission: Impossible series, is reportedly set to write and direct, with Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan on board as a producer and possibly the star.

The report did not include any further details on the bidding, including fees or other deal particulars that could be in play. In any event, a bidding war is no surprise, as The Hollywood Reporter said the package was set to become the “biggest bidding war of the year” among Hollywood studios.

That report also said Apple, the sixth reported party, was among those who took a pitch meeting and that the filmmakers were eyeing a theatrical release. It’s unknown if Apple submitted a bid, however. If it’s true that the filmmakers want a theatrical release, Netflix could be a longshot, though the company does release some films theatrically, and it’s always possible deal terms could shift in some way to make Netflix a favorable destination.

In any event, the THR story said the Battlefield movie package is expected to sell for a lot of money, though no numbers or ranges were mentioned.

Paramount was not listed as one of the companies set to take a meeting for the Battlefield movie, but that’s not entirely unexpected given the company already has a high-profile Call of Duty movie on the way from Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan. In any event, should Warner Bros. Discovery win the auction for the Battlefield movie, it could become a Paramount movie if the company’s $111 billion deal for WBD goes through.

There have been talks about a Battlefield movie or a TV show dating back more than a decade, but the landscape is different now. With video game movies like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, A Minecraft Movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and the Sonic series making lots and lots of money, Hollywood studios are no doubt looking for even more games to adapt with the aim of striking it rich.

As for the Battlefield game series, 2025’s Battlefield 6 is the newest entry. It performed exceptionally well, becoming 2025’s No. 1 best-selling game in the US.
