Confused? Let us explain.

About Safe Spots

Safe Spots are areas outside of Hiding Spots that let you avoid the perception of hostile entities like Ambush and Rush. The reason they work is they exploit how entities detect and kill a player, with a need for a direct line of sight from the entity to the player model. Some props and areas block this line of sight, and let you evade them without using the ‘proper’ hiding places.

The advantages of Safe Spots are as follows:

  • These provide more options to avoid fast and deadly enemies.
  • You can hide in these spots indefinitely, as they don’t trigger Hide to throw you out, helpful for encounters with Ambush.
  • If in a large group, it makes competition for Hiding Spots less intense.

The Safe Spots do come with disadvantages, too though:

  • Safe Spots are a lot more finicky that Hiding Spots as there is no clear indication of whether you’re in one or not. This can result in unnecessary death.
  • There’s always a chance a spot will be patched without you realizing it, which will probably end badly.

All in all, they’re often a more risky choice than diving under a bed, but they can be helpful as a last ditch way to survive an attack.

Examples Of Safe Spots

So where are these spots?

  • Behind furniture. Closets, beds and desks can sometimes shield you if you’re crouched down between it and the direction of Rush or Ambush.
  • Behind luggage trolleys. These don’t need to be full to fool the creature, as the game still counts them as a solid object, whether you can see through them or not.
  • Basements. Head into the back of the basement to stay out of the way.
  • Loot rooms. Attackers often skip these, tuck in behind the door to avoid detection
