Over 700 of Wanda Cinemas Games’ owned-and-operated theatres will be used as esports venues, hosting events from Super League Gaming. There’s no word on which titles or platforms will be utilised as part of the deal at the time of writing, nor when these events will kick off.

Ann Hand, CEO of Super League Gaming commented on the partnership in a release: “This accretive partnership was a strategic imperative for Super League. Joining forces with Wanda, the world’s biggest entertainment provider, to bring quality play, events, and content to those passionate players transforms the size of our servable market. We are honored to be partnered with Wanda as we bring Super League to the Asian market.”

The global expansion for Super League Gaming began in September last year when it revealed an expansion to its partnership with gaming centre software service ggCircuit. The expansion saw Super League Gaming’s content and tournament programs expand to over 600 gaming centres globally.

Last November 2019, Cooldown Ventures, the parent company of UK organisation Vexed Gaming, announced the launch of CineLeague – an international esports tournament that plans to take esports to cinemas. More recently, Vindex established a major partnership with IMAX.

Esports Insider says: This partnership continues the trend of esports moving into movie theatres but rather than viewing it, people will have the chance to compete there. We’re interested to see if Super League Gaming can make a dent in a highly-competitive Chinese market through this deal.
