Let’s talk about the bats, and then how to handle them.

About Gloombats

Gloombats are small creatures that only appear in The Mines. They have moth-like wings, large, round, glowing white eyes, antennae, and sharp teeth. What they lack in size, but they make up for it in numbers, as they spawn in large groups.

Gloombats are attracted to lights, aggressively so. If you’re holding a light source near a flock of Gloombats, they will try and bite it, and you.

How To Deal With Gloombats

Now you know a bit about Gloombats, we’ll discuss ways to avoid a grim, bitey fate from a flock.

  • The easiest way to deal with Gloombats is to simply turn off any light sources if you see or hear them. While they’re dangerous if you’re holding a light, they’re otherwise harmless.
  • One problem they can cause is wiping out lights that you’d normally use as a warning for the arrival of entities like Rush, as Rush can spawn in rooms alongside Gloombats. Try and note hiding places if you can’t see the lights.
  • Gloombats swarms glowsticks, though it’s not that useful to throw one unless you need to get rid of it fast.
  • There are two Achievements associated with Gloombats.
    • Flyswatter – Take out a Gloombat with a Crucifix.
    • I Don’t Believe My Eyes – Surive a Gloombat swarm.
