Right, let’s go into what we know about the midnight monster.

About Dread

Dread is an entity that resembles a misshapen white face with too many eyes and mouths. It can spawn anywhere past Reception, with the exception of special rooms. When it appears it can instakill the player, though there’s a good chance you’ve never run into the entity.

You need to go out of your way, or seriously mess up, to run into Dread.

How To Spawn Dread

Dread spawns when a player spends too long in a room, that is a room other than Reception and other special rooms. If you want to encounter Dread, for the achievement attached to surviving him, it’s easiest to find a room with a clock.

You need to wait until the clock hits midnight. It should start around 11pm and slowly count toward midnight for a few minutes. As it gets closer to midnight, the room should get darker, and the lights will start to go out.

As it hits midnight, and Dread is about to spawn, the color will disappear from your view. If you’re trying to get the ‘Dead Of Night’ achievement, now is the time to get out of dodge. If you can get to the door to the next room before Dread gets to you, Dread will despawn and you’ll be safe, and get the Achievement for your trouble.
