Android Gaming Headlines and Updates: Touchgrind Scooter, Dead Cells, John Mulaney, and More

The best thing about writing up the best Android gaming headlines of the week every Sunday is that it reassures us that there’s plenty of fun on the horizon – and generally a lot closer.

Touchgrind Scooter is a nice surprise, promising another dose of finger-based fun in 2021, while we absolutely can’t wait to get our hands on Prizefighters 2, not much more than a week from now.

Headlines

The Touchgrind series has been around for a long time – ever since 2009, in fact, when the first Touchgrind showed up and revolutionised the skating genre with an ingenious two-finger touchscreen input method. The series has remained on top, so the announcement of Touchgrind Scooter is cause for celebration.

Prizefighters 2 was announced last month, and already it’s on the precipice of arrival. While it looks a lot like Punch-Out!!, the ancient NES-era boxing game, Prizefighters 2 is a much, much more sophisticated beast. It simulates not only fights but entire careers, with training regimens, age-related decline, and superb punching action in the ring.

Princess Connect! Re: Dive is absolutely huge in Japan – so big, in fact, that it spawned its own spin-off anime series. This colorful action-RPG sees you forming a party, completing quests, jumping into PVP matches, and so on. Pre-registration are set to open any minute now, with rewards available in proportion to the number of sign-ups the game attracts.

If you’re experiencing deja vu, it’s because we recently covered another huge Dead Cells update – Legacy. That one brought the mobile version up to date with the PC and console versions, while this next DLC – Fatal Falls – adds some entirely new stuff in the way of biomes, enemies, and more. Unfortunately it’s not clear yet when the DLC will come to Android.

Google has announced the winners of its 2020 awards. Genshin Impact was the biggest victor, unsurprisingly, with two awards under its belt (best game and one of five most innovative games). Meanwhile, Dream League Soccer took the Users’ Choice award.

Square Enix sure loves remastering things. The latest project is SaGa Frontier Remastered, an updated version of the very first SaGa game to come out in the US. Though it came out all the way back in 1998, SaGa Frontier was ahead of its time, with multiple endings, optional quests, and branching storylines.

Updates

25 billion lemmings and counting have been rescued in Lemmings: The Puzzle Adventure, the re-imagined take on Psygnosis’s early 90s puzzle classic. To mark the occasion, or perhaps just coincidentally, it’s just received 250 new levels, eight new tribes, and 32 new characters in an update.

Spider-Ham is back, voiced once again by the stand-up comic and actor John Mulaney. Kabam has created an animated short to promote this latest cameo, while the game itself is getting a John Mulaney’s Champion Challenge contest throughout December, with Spider-Ham available for free to everybody who downloads the game between the 7th and the 31st of December.
