23 Jan eSport New Jersey Gambling Revenue Surpassed $6 Billion in 2024 January 23, 2025 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment In 2024, New Jersey’s gambling revenue reached $6.3 billion, up 9% from the year before. The state continues to be a key player in the US gambling market, breaking new records year after year. However, much of this growth came from iGaming and sports betting, both of which involve revenue-sharing agreements. This means casinos don’t keep all of the $6.3 billion, as much of it goes to external partners. Casino Revenue: $231.8 million, down slightly by 0.3% compared to December 2023. Online Gaming: $228 million, showing impressive growth of 26.5% year-on-year. Sports Betting: $62.8 million, a 42.6% drop, mainly due to favorable results for players. Land-based casinos brought in $2.82 billion in 2024 but were the only area to see less money than before (1.1%). Meanwhile, iGaming had a big jump, up 24% to $2.39 billion. Right now, physical casinos are still on top, but if iGaming keeps growing like this, it looks set to overtake them in 2025. Sports Wagering on the Rise In 2024, sports betting brought in $1.09 billion, up 8.7% compared to the year before. Players wagered $12.77 billion overall, with $12.27 billion online and $499.2 million at retail locations. For Atlantic City’s casinos, in-person gambling remains the core of their business. Unlike iGaming and sports betting, this revenue directly supports operations and profits without being shared with external partners. New Jersey has come a long way from betting effectively being under prohibition, with the state one of the leaders in all things gambling, even taking Esports wagers. Key Moments in 2024 In January, total gaming revenue reached $559.1 million. That’s a 28% jump from the same month in 2023. Internet gaming grew by 19.9%, but the real star was sports wagering, which surged by an incredible 136.1%. October saw internet gaming reach $213.6 million, setting a new record after beating September’s total. In-person casino revenues, though, fell by 8.5% compared to October 2023, showing more players are moving online. November broke October’s record for internet gaming, with revenue passing $214 million. Overall, the month’s gaming revenue hit $556.9 million, which is 15.4% higher than November 2023.
