Gen.G sweep LYON to end North America’s Worlds 2026 run and set up iG semi-final

Gen.G beat LYON 3-0 in Allen, Texas, removing North America’s last team from Worlds 2026. The LCK top seed are now one series from a first Worlds final, with a revived Invictus Gaming in the way.

Gen.G swept LYON in the second Worlds 2026 quarter-final in Allen, Texas. The defeat removes North America’s last team from the tournament. The LCK top seed now face Invictus Gaming in a best-of-five semi-final on Saturday, starting at 16:00 Central Time.

Gen.G went into the series with the better record. That gave them first choice of side for game one, and they picked blue. They stayed on blue side for games two and three.

Gen.G stand one series from an elusive Worlds final

Reaching the last four secures Gen.G at least third or fourth place. That is a familiar stopping point for the organisation. It has finished third or fourth at four of its last five Worlds and has never played in a Worlds final, GosuGamers reported.

The stakes go beyond one team. Gen.G entered the tournament as the LCK’s top seed. Korean sides are chasing a fifth Summoner’s Cup in a row.

Their opponents bring their own history. Invictus Gaming beat Top Esports 3-1 in the opening quarter-final. That put iG into their first Worlds semi-final since 2019. TheShy and Rookie, who won Worlds with iG in 2018, are back in the last four.

The money rises sharply from here. Worlds 2026 carries a US$5,000,000 prize pool. The champion takes US$1,000,000 (20%), and the runner-up receives US$800,000.

LYON leave with their best Worlds finish

For LYON, the exit still marks clear progress. They go out in joint fifth to eighth place and collect a share of the prize money. GosuGamers called it easily the organisation’s best Worlds finish. In four earlier appearances, LYON never placed higher than 17th.

Their elimination also changes the shape of the event. North America will have no representative in the semi-finals or the Grand Final. The remaining matches in Allen will be contested without a team from the region.

Sunderland prepares to show the Grand Final

The Grand Final is listed for 14:00 EST on 14 November. British fans will have a dedicated place to watch it. The British Esports Federation is holding a watch party at the new British Arena in Sunderland. It is the venue’s first esports watch party.

The arena covers 15,000 sq ft. It has a 17-metre-wide LED screen, a 200-seat viewing area and a bar. Students can get discounted tickets.

Whether Gen.G or iG make it to that final will be settled in Allen on Saturday. The Sunderland watch party runs from 5:30pm on the day of the final until 1:00am on 15 November.
