Game Freak Announces New Game Ame no Chi Hare Onna for Mobile!

Game Freak has announced Ame no Chi Hare Onna, a free-to-play mobile game. The Japanese video game developer is best known for being the primary creator and co-owner of the multi-billion-dollar Pokémon franchise.

Game Freak has dropped little details for Ame no Chi Hare Onna till now. First of all, it’s a laundry game. But not exactly the kind where you just throw shirts into a washing machine and call it a day. In more comprehensive terms, you can call it a magical girl/weather-based game. The title actually translates to Rainy Day, Sunny Girl.

Secondly, the game is currently planned for release in Japan this winter. It’s being led by Shigeru Ohmori, the Game Freak director and producer who has worked on Pokémon Sun and Moon, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. He has also been the primary director of the Pokémon series since Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Thirdly, there’s no Pokémon involved in Ame no Chi Hare Onna, as confirmed by Game Freak. In fact, the idea behind the game is honestly pretty funny. Ohmori came up with Ame no Chi Hare Onna after watching his wife do laundry. He started wondering whether the loop of doing laundry and checking the weather could somehow work as a game.

Game Freak revealed bits of the story of Ame no Chi Hare Onna as well!

The protagonist is a young girl named Himawari Haruwatari, also known as Hare Onna, who can brighten people’s moods by turning weather into power. She gets help from a strange messenger of the gods named Kumorin.

You’ll patrol the city looking for sentient trash monsters, which are everyday objects that become possessed. These things are causing abnormal weather patterns, so Hare Onna has to fight them in turn-based battles, cleanse their negative energy and get everything back to normal.
