Boxville Devs Announce New Logic Puzzle Game I Want to Play the Villain!

The award-winning Ukrainian studio behind Boxville, Triomatica Games, has announced a new game called I Want to Play the Villain!. It brings an interesting plot. A logic puzzle game where you’re trying to stop a theatre production from becoming a total disaster.

This new game, I Want to Play the Villain! is coming to Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. In fact, there’s a free demo hitting Steam on August 17th, 2026. The full release is currently planned for early 2027.

So, what’s the deal?

I Want to Play the Villain! is a theatre-themed logic puzzle game, where putting on the perfect performance is not that easy. Every actor has their own personality, ambitions, fears, wishes, and favourite roles. So, you’ve got to figure out who should play what, rearrange the cast, switch costumes around, and even change parts of the story so everyone ends up happy.

The game revolves around rearranging stories instead of simply solving a fixed puzzle. Giving an actor their dream role might fix one problem but create another somewhere else. Maybe two actors work perfectly together, or maybe someone absolutely shouldn’t end up in a situation they’re afraid of.

Every chapter introduces a different setting, cast of characters, mechanics, and story. Each performance becomes its own puzzle, and because the stories are modular, changing things around creates different performances and different outcomes.

Triomatica Games is both developing and publishing their new game I Want to Play the Villain! It features Triomatica Games’ signature hand-drawn, 2D animated style as well as their warm, cinematic aesthetic. Take a first glimpse at the game below!
