Funny Roguelike Autobattler How Many Dudes? Launches on Mobile

If you’ve been wondering whether 100 people could actually beat a gorilla after that whole 100 men versus a gorilla meme exploded a few months ago, well… somebody apparently decided the only logical next step was to turn the idea into a game. And honestly? That’s pretty much the entire vibe of How Many Dudes?.

How Many Dudes does it take to beat up a gorilla? Well, that’s the burning question that this new game tries to answer. Through actual (in-game) fights, of course! The game is out now on Android, published by Butterscotch Shenanigans, the studio behind the Crashlands series.

How Many Dudes? is a roguelike dude-builder

Your job is to recruit an increasingly ridiculous army of dudes to throw into equally ridiculous fights. There are gorillas, horse-sized ducks, god, and whatnot! You’ll find out by running your own Dude Ranch.

There are 42 unique Dude Types spread across six Dude Families: Undead Dudes, Employed Dudes, Warrior Dudes, Fantasy Dudes, Sci-Fi Dudes, and Action Dudes. The fun part is figuring out how they all work together because mixing different Dude Types creates wonderfully broken combos.

You can have Zombie Dudes that explode whenever enemies hit them. Ninja Dudes unleash a barrage of shurikens, while Cowboy Dudes lasso other Dudes out of danger. There are more than 850,000 possible team compositions, too.

Then, there are the Relics and Trinkets. Hundreds of Dude Relics completely change how battles work. Wizard Dudes can start launching volleys of fireballs every time they move, while Ninja Dudes can automatically enter stealth when they’re in danger. And somehow, Finance Dudes can make money by taking out life insurance policies on your other Dudes.

Boss fights reward Trinkets, which are assigned to specific Dude Types and unlock even crazier strategies. You can give your Wizard Dudes ADHD or hand your Samurai Dudes a Taser.
