Nintendo Drops WarioWare-Style Pictonico! Where You Turn Photos into Minigames

Nintendo has added Pictonico! To mobile. It’s developed by Nintendo alongside Intelligent Systems, and its whole gimmick is turning pictures from your gallery into playable minigames. Goofy and weird, it will remind you a lot of Nintendo’s WarioWare games.

The situations it creates are anything but!

One moment, your school’s sports stars are confidently strutting down a red carpet. The next, your hungry boss needs assistance, or someone is desperately trying to erase embarrassing high-school memories. A noisy son gets his mouth zipped shut.

Other minigames feature old friends reconnecting while skydiving, a grandpa dressed as a ballerina, a dad making a suspicious face that might actually be a facial mask. You even get a best friend transformed into a final boss.

The game pulls from photos selected by you, letting familiar faces become the stars of all the chaos. Intelligent Systems, which co-developed Pictonico!, is also known for its work on the WarioWare series, and the influence is hard to miss.

Pictonico! is for those who enjoy weird humour and fast-paced challenges

The game is free-to-start, and a small selection of minigames is available as a demo. However, accessing the full experience requires purchasing separate minigame volumes. You can unlock up to 80 minigames in total through the additional volumes.

Unlike Nintendo’s earlier mobile title Super Mario Run, Pictonico! does not need a constant internet connection. Also, you can control which photos are used in the game. It can pull from your gallery, but you can also create a separate album and limit Pictonico! to those selected pictures.
