How To Get The Hydroelectric Turbine In Subnautica 2

Are you planning to build Hydroelectric Turbines in Subnautica 2? This is a fairly important fixture for your base. That’s because it automatically generates power from naturally occurring underwater currents.

Subnautica 2 base guide – The Hydroelectric Turbine

If you’re playing on Creative Mode, the Hydroelectric Turbine blueprint should be available right from the start. In fact, you have unlimited materials, so you can build as many as you want. However, if you want a more traditional experience with Survival Mode, then you need to find and scan at least two fragments.

Hydroelectric Turbine fragment #1

  • Location: Approximately 280 meters east-northeast of the Lifepod.
  • Tip: If you go to this area, you’ll see a huge water current that sweeps you toward the northeast. Try to avoid it so you can scan this Subnautica 2 Hydroelectric Turbine fragment, which is next to a crate. Oh, and a Tadpole fragment is also nearby.

Hydroelectric Turbine fragment #2

  • Location: Around 340 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod.
  • Tip: If you follow the aforementioned current, it should take you close to the Old Habitat. There’s a fragment on a small ridge near a bunch of scattered equipment.

Hydroelectric Turbine fragment #3

  • Location: Around 360 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod.
  • Tip: There’s another fragment on the ridges with the BFJs (which we affectionately call Big Friggin’ Jellies). Another current is sweeping through it.

  • Location: Approximately 410 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod.
  • Tip: Finally, there’s a fragment on a metal platform near the BFJs and the Camp One hab.

How to craft and make use of the Hydroelectric Turbine’s power generation

Once you’ve unlocked the Subnautica 2 Hydroelectric Turbine blueprint, it’s time to craft it via a Habitat Builder. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Each Hydroelectric Turbine costs 3x Titanium, 3x Copper, and 3x Silver.
  • It has to be built within a naturally occurring water current, such as the ones we mentioned earlier.
  • As long as it’s within the current, it will always generate 12 energy per second.
  • If it’s too far from your base, you can build additional Power Transmitters, which cost 1x Titanium and 1x Copper. If you have multiple turbines, all of them will be automatically attached to a single Power Transmitter’s cable. From there, you just need to plop down more transmitters until the power is funneled back to your base’s exterior.

That does it for our guide on how to unlock and build the Hydroelectric Turbine in Subnautica 2. The reason why this device is integral is because of its consistent power generation. There are many naturally occurring underwater currents–you can build several of these objects in a particular spot and connect them via transmitters back to your base. These contraptions ensure that you can always make use of your facilities and machinery, including Metal Farms.

Subnautica 2 is currently in early access, which means new biomes, systems, and story beats are expected to be added as part of updates. For everything you need to know about the game, you can visit our Subnautica 2 guides hub.
