Best New Android Games and Sales: Rabbids Coding!, 9th Dawn III, Whale Trail Classic, and More

This week is strangely lacking in blockbuster names, but that doesn’t mean it’s a washout. Far from it. In fact, this has been one of the best weeks for new releases in a long time, thanks to the surprise appearance of Ubisoft’s free coding teacher Rabbits Coding!, the fun and polished Funko Pop! Blitz, and 9th Dawn III, a classic slice of RPG action on mobile.

Sales-wise, Whale Trail Classic is temporarily going cheap. It’s not the first time ustwo’s gorgeous casual masterpiece has been discounted this year, but it’s always worth highlighting.

New Games

Originally released on PC last year, Rabbids Coding! is exactly what it sounds like: an app that helps teach kids how to code through the magic of Rabbids. The premise is that some Rabbids have managed to board the International Space Station, and you need to expel – and, by extension, kill – them by executing lines of code in the form of basic symbols.

Just a handful of months after ZeptoLab released Robotics!, the prolific studio behind Cut the Rope is back with Evo Pop, a unique, fluid strategy game in which you have to enlarge, multiply, and otherwise command colored squares to overwhelm other colored squares in a series of 2D stages.

Remember Hot Wheels? This latest free-to-play game based on the popular toy car franchise sees you racing around on 3D tracks filled with loops, jumps, and outrageous hazards including sharks and giant monkeys. There’s a track editor, too.

Funko Pop! Blitz is a match-three puzzler that plays like Bejeweled Blitz. It sees you building collections of pop culture figures, such as Marty McFly and a dinosaur from Jurassic World, in the form of bobbleheaded Funko Pop caricatures. Each of these characters has its own special moves, too.

SwordMaster Story tells the story of a swordmaster. That much is obvious. The swordmaster in question is Cain, an average student who somehow finds himself in another world and suddenly able to wield a sword masterfully. This anime action-RPG comes from the studio behind Evil Hunter Tycoon.

9th Dawn III: Shadow of Erthil is a massive game with a relatively massive price tag. This slice of classic hand-and-slash RPG fun sees you roaming around in a vast fantasy world killing 270 different species of monster, collecing 1400 unique items, wielding 300 different weapons, and more.

Sales

This is the Police, the acclaimed tactical shooter adventure game series from HandyGames, is on sale. The first game sees you playing as a crooked cop on the eve of his retirement, trying to drum up a nest egg through any means possible. The second game places you in pretty much the same scenario, giving you tough choices to make.

An early cautionary tale about the danger of going premium in a free-to-play world, Whale Trail Classic is a marvelous slice of casual arcade fun with presentation to die for. There’s a free version called Whale Trail Frenzy, but you should seize any opportunity to nab the original and best.

Ashworld, from pixelart supremo OrangePixel, is an apocalyptic open-world arcade survival game. Like a top-down Mad Max, it sees you racing around in cars, killing baddies, crafting items, and – why not? – killing zombies.
