At the end of each regular season, there will be a two-week finals period which will be streamed, with the grand finals eventually being held as an in-person live event once lockdown restrictions have been eased.

Chris Cockerell, CEO at Sports in Esports, spoke on the inaugural tournament in a release: “This is the first ever global ecricket competition and with this we have the perfect partners in Nautilus Mobile and EGL. As fans of sport it is important that cricket joins the gaming elite. As fans of cricket we have created a competition that will break all barriers for online sports gaming.

“Our core audience is India with over 900 million cricket fans, yet our focus is to introduce the game to cricket nations around the world. We look forward to watching as players compete to win prizes and also the big cash bonanza at the end of each season.”

Esports tournament platform Esports Gaming League (EGL) has been confirmed as the platform partner for the tournament. The prize purse will be crowdfunded using tokens that enable players to enter the competition, with hopes of creating a “substantial prize pool.”

V Michel, Founder and Director of Nautilus Mobile, added: “We at Nautilus Mobile are delighted to present to you the first ever ecricket World Series. We believe that Real Cricket 20 has redefined Cricket Games on Mobile with its authentic and complete Cricket experience. And with the Real-Time Multiplayer and Spectate mode, Real Cricket 20 has become a complete product to enter the esports arena.

“We look forward to working with Chris Cockerell, Ian Langstaff of SIES and Glen Elliot of EGL to drive the ecricket World Series to cricket gamers and Esports fans globally.”

Esports Insider says: Even with several sports using the current global climate to enter the esports space, it’s still somewhat surprising to see cricket join in on the action. With plenty of players enjoying Real Cricket 20, it’ll be interesting to see the response in terms of crowdfunding, participation, and viewership.
