Gamer Health accepted into HYPE Sports Innovation programme


Finnish start up Gamer Health has been selected to participate in an acceleration programme lead by 1. FC Köln, in cooperation with HYPE Sports Innovation.

Gamer Health is looking to change the perception of the sedentary esports lifestyle with its application, aimed at helping gamers manage their behaviours and life choices. The brand is owned by Bono Health.

HYPE is a technology platform that’s dedicated to connecting and investing in sports innovation worldwide. The programme provides participants with access to the international sports world, offering training and networking opportunities.

Timo Kettunen, CEO of Gamer Health discussed the venture: “This is a game changer for us. As a Finnish startup, our location is always considered being a little bit beyond north, but with the accelerators huge partner network, we can launch our international success straight to the next level.”

Gamer Health was selected as one of 10 applicants from a total of 124 to move forward with the programme, being the first Finnish startup to participate. It will be able to move into the global market by product testing with target groups, while also pitching its product to sports investors and venture capitalists. Previous HYPE accelerator events boasted 30 fundraising rounds, pitching to over 950 industry leaders with over 500 connections made with investors.

Alexander Wehrle, CEO of 1. FC Köln added: “Through the startup programme, we want to promote not only creative young entrepreneurs in the sports sector, but in the best case as a club benefit from innovative business concepts.”

1. FC Köln entered esports back in 2018 when it partnered with SK Gaming. It later acquired a 67% stake in SK Gaming alongside Mercedes-Benz.
