Blocknado: Retro Block Puzzle Is a Fresh Take on the Classic Tetris!

Blocknado: Retro Block Puzzle is a falling block puzzle. It’s like Tetris but with a twist. Instead of filling rows like the usual brick-stacking games, you’re filling rings around a small square core in the middle of the board. And on top of that, the whole floor can rotate.

Blocknado: Retro Block Puzzle is created by Reto Apps. Blocks fall toward the little square core, and you drag them across the board, tap to rotate them, and flick them down. Fill an entire ring, and it collapses, which makes everything outside that ring fall inward. If that movement completes another ring, that one collapses too; the rest of the board can start tumbling in after it.

What happens when you really fling a piece? If you flick it hard enough, it slams into place and twists the floor a quarter turn, rotating the board 90 degrees on the side where you dropped the piece. So, if you’ve spent a while building up blocks along one side, you can suddenly have that whole wall arrive at the bottom.

There’s also a difference between flinging a piece and just letting it settle. If you simply let it drop into place, there isn’t enough momentum to rotate the floor. Hence, you can actually build up one side for a bit before deliberately causing a rotation.

You can also get rid of unwanted pieces by flinging them to the left or right, or dropping them down into a gap, although doing that costs you some points. So, you’re thinking about momentum and when to rotate the floor.

Blocknado: Retro Block Puzzle has different modes

It has a Classic mode that’s endless, scored, and gets faster every few minutes. The top ten scores in the world are displayed on the home screen. Then there’s Puzzle mode, which has authored levels split into four difficulty bands: Easy, Medium, Hard and Wild. You get one or two stars for filling all the goal blocks, while getting three stars requires an identical match.

Blocknado: Retro Block Puzzle is now available on the Google Play Store. It’s free; you can play it offline and an in-app purchase that removes ads permanently.
