Sultan’s Game Is a Story-Driven Card RPG Inspired by Arabian Nights

Sultan’s Game is a card game, but with many twists and subplots. You can plan around murder, betrayal, ancient gods and your own possible execution. It’s a Sultan’s world, after all! The game launched on PC last year and is published by Hong Kong’s Game Tree Studio.

Here, every decision can come back to bite you. You’re playing as a minister serving a capricious and cruel Sultan, and unfortunately for you, he’s decided to make your life into a deadly game. Every seven days, you draw a card. That card has to be fulfilled within those seven days. Fail to do it and, well, there’s an executioner waiting for you.

The cards revolve around things like Carnality, Extravagance, Conquest and Bloodshed, with each one demanding something different from you. They’re dangerous desires turned into ticking death sentences. But, on the brighter side, they also give you the freedom to act without consequence in ways you normally couldn’t.

There aren’t any obvious good or bad routes you can just follow in Sultan’s Game. Your choices reshape the story. You could become the Sultan’s favoured confidant, or secretly start plotting his assassination. You could stay loyal to someone you love, or give in to forbidden desire.

Underneath all of that story and choices is a turn-based resource management system, too. You’ll use cards to command allies and assets, complete objectives, and build your power while collecting wealth, intelligence and equipment.

Sultan’s Game offers more than 50 endings. Your choices determine whether you die as a loyal sycophant, become a kingslayer or dragon slayer, overthrow the tyrant, walk away into a peaceful life with your beloved, or summon dark forces capable of bringing the world to its knees.
