Amazon is currently selling the 1,238-page The Lord of the Rings Illustrated for $54.45, which is 40% off its normal $90 price point. This is a one-volume, jacketed hardcover version of the series featuring 30 color illustrations, maps, and sketches drawn by J.R.R. Tolkien himself.

Some of the drawings include depictions of the most epic moments from the series, including the Bridge of Khazad-dum, where Gandalf and the Balrog had a fiery fight. The book also comes with fold-out maps drawn by Tolkien’s son, Christopher, containing more details of Middle-earth.

Today, March 25, just so happens to be Tolkien Reading Day, so it’s a perfect time to snap up this version of the book if you’re interested. Also sweetening the deal is the fact that it’s included with Prime’s promotion where you can get three books for the price of two.

Beyond book deals, the Big Spring Sale also includes a nice discount on a Lego The Lord of the Rings set depicting the epic battle between Gandalf and the Balrog.

In other news about The Lord of the Rings, it was just recently announced that late-night TV host and The Lord of the Rings super-fan Stephen Colbert is writing a new The Lord of the Rings movie. It’s tentatively called The Shadow of the Past, and it takes place 14 years after the events of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies.
