Goritaire Is a Single-Player Gorilla-Multiplying Card Game, Out Now on Android

Japanese studio Arc System Works has dropped a new addition to its lineup. It’s a gorilla-multiplying card game called Goritaire. The game is now out on mobile, consoles, and PC. Meanwhile, the studio’s last release was Dear Me, I was…

How many gorillas can you grow in Goritaire?

It’s a single-player game where you raise a growing troop of gorillas while keeping a close eye on bananas. It’s the sole resource that determines whether the entire system holds together or collapses.

The goal is to expand the habitat, increase the number of gorillas, and ultimately line up 7 or more gorillas on the ground to secure victory. The catch is unforgiving. If even one gorilla goes without a banana, the entire troop falls apart instantly, ending the run.

Goritaire repeatedly poses questions about the origin and destination of its gorillas while filling the screen with them as you progress. Expanding too quickly risks a food shortage, while playing too cautiously may prevent you from ever reaching the goal.

Do you know that it’s a board game? Goritaire is the official digital version of a board game by Pawn, the game designer and illustrator known for the single-player sheep-multiplying card game Shephy.

Shephy developed a following for its unusual objective of increasing a flock of sheep to 1,000, and Goritaire follows a similar philosophy. It replaces sheep with gorillas and wool production with banana management.

In addition to its core gameplay, the title includes a crossover. A special card featuring Goriko, the mascot of Go Go Curry, will appear in the game. Go! Go! Curry is a popular Japanese fast-food chain specialising in Kanazawa-style curry, known for its thick, dark, and rich sauce.

Goritaire is now available on the Google Play Store for free.
