16 Mar GameNews Expedition 33 Sequel? Writer Staying Quiet On Franchise's Future March 16, 2026 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment Developer Sandfall Interactive’s first game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, was one of 2025’s biggest breakout success stories, and everyone is wondering if and when a sequel is coming. That remains to be seen, and the game’s lead writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, is sworn to secrecy. She told GamesRadar, “I cannot tell you these things. If I told you, I’d have to kill you. I’m sorry. I would love to tell people, because, as my husband knows, I cannot keep a secret.” She added: “I love sharing information. I just want to share everything with everybody. But no, I cannot. So sorry.” In May 2025 after Expedition 33’s release, Sandfall boss François Meurisse said the studio is going to make a new game, “for sure.” He went on to say that he “can’t wait to get to the next project” to help showcase the team’s talent after learning to work together on Expedition 33. As mentioned, it was the team’s first game as a group. After the huge success of Expedition 33, Meurisse said there will be “higher expectations” for whatever comes next. Svedberg-Yen previously said Sandfall does not want to people-please with whatever it makes next. Instead, she said Sandfall’s next game will be what the team wants to make as opposed to being what fans specifically want. “I’ve seen too many TV shows and books be swayed trying to please a lot of people, and in the process you end up losing the heart of what’s there,” Svedberg-Yen said. “So [we] feel like we need to trust our instincts and continue to trust the vision behind the studio.” Expedition 33 sold more than 5 million copies, but that doesn’t cover the game’s total reach, as it’s also available to the millions of Xbox Game Pass subscribers through their membership. In addition to strong sales, the game won numerous Game of the Year awards. In fact, it surpassed Elden Ring to win the most Game of the Year awards in the history of video games.
