When does the current Fortnite season end?

Knowing when the Fortnite season ends can help you plan your final weeks of grinding and give you a better idea of when to expect new content to drop. Each season has a variable duration, with some lasting 2–3 months and others extending for various reasons.

There are also mini-seasons, which usually last a month, adding to the confusion players have when trying to figure out when the Fortnite season is ending.

According to Epic Games, Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 will end on Thursday, March 19, 2026. 

The season was originally scheduled to end on March 5, but was extended by two weeks for unspecified reasons. Nevertheless, the extension gives players extra time to fully grind the Battle Pass, which includes Marty McFly from Back to the Future and The Bride from Kill Bill.

While there is no official confirmation from Epic Games, all signs point to a Fortnite live event happening.

Prominent leakers like HYPEX have already stated that an event involving The Seven could kick off as soon as March 14. Currently, the map features a giant Orb that fires back at players when they shoot it. If there’s a live event, it will likely involve the Orb making changes to the map.

That said, you might want to temper any expectations, as the big annual headline-grabbing live events are usually reserved for closing out Fortnite Chapters.

There are two main ways you can check when the current Fortnite season ends. Here’s how:

When a Fortnite season ends, the game will be taken down for scheduled maintenance.

During this downtime, matchmaking servers for all game modes except UEFN experiences will be disabled. You may also encounter “servers not responding” errors until the server functionality is restored.

While there’s no certainty about how long maintenance will last, it usually takes 3–4 hours for Epic Games to bring the servers back up again. You’ll be able to download the patch for the next season during the downtime, so it won’t be a complete waste of time.

Once a Fortnite season ends, the Battle Pass will be completely locked, and any rewards you didn’t manage to earn will be lost.

That said, if you have unspent rewards available to claim, the game will automatically claim them for you. For example, if you reach Level 95 but only claim rewards up until Level 90, the game will auto-claim the next five rewards – but you won’t get anything past that.

Not everything gets reset when a new Fortnite season starts. Here’s everything that carries over:

Most Fortnite seasons typically run for around 10–12 weeks. The current season, Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1, is set to run for 110 days, having been stretched beyond its usual timeline due to an unexpected extension.

The longest season was Chapter 2, Season 1, which ran from October 15 to February 20 and lasted 127 days. The season was extended multiple times after Chapter 2 launched, largely to give Epic Games more time to prepare for future content after the Black Hole.

The shortest season was Chapter 5: Remix, which ran for just 28 days from November 2–30, 2024. However, if you exclude special mini or remix seasons, then the shortest full season was Chapter 4, Season OG, which lasted 29 days from November 3 to December 2, 2023.

Fortnite seasons can be delayed or extended for various reasons.

Most of the time, Epic Games needs additional time to polish large-scale live events or ensure major content updates are stable before launch.

Extensions can also help ensure a smoother launch by reducing the risk of lengthy downtime caused by server issues and unexpected bugs — especially when a new map or core mechanic is added.
