Reigns: The Witcher Is a Fresh Dark Fantasy Take on the Hit Reigns Series, Out Now

A new spin on a familiar monster-slaying saga has arrived as Reigns: The Witcher. It launches on mobile platforms as well as PC today. Nerial Limited and Devolver Digital have collaborated with CD PROJEKT RED to merge the swipe-driven design of the Reigns series with the grim world of The Witcher series.

Well, instead of retreading the well-worn path of monster contracts and political intrigue from a traditional action role-playing perspective, this game reconstructs events through the storytelling instincts of Dandelion.

You still step into the boots of Geralt of Rivia, the professional monster slayer of the School of the Wolf. But the tale unfolds as if recounted in a tavern ballad, with embellishments, dramatic detours and the occasional absurd flourish.

The core mechanic in Reigns: The Witcher remains the series’ signature swipe system. You make decisions by moving left or right, shaping Geralt’s fate across the Continent. A simple gesture might win favour among nobles, anger a circle of mages, or leave the White Wolf knee-deep in drownings.

Familiar figures from the franchise make their return, though filtered through the bard’s theatrical lens. Characters such as Yennefer, Triss Merigold and Vesemir appear as allies or complications. Thousands of branching combinations influence how the encounters play out.

Between story beats, Geralt is still called upon to handle more direct threats. Combat-focused minigames pit him against Drowned, Rotten and other foes. Elsewhere, you get to guide the bard in performing polished retellings of Geralt’s greatest hits in distant villages. It includes solving puzzles and unlocking additional deeds and characters.

You may choose to hunt monsters, upset the locals or even run a hot bath, all while navigating the moral maze through the bard’s eyes. The resulting legend can be dramatic, absurd or somewhere in between; it all depends on you.
