Narrative-Driven Historical Strategy Title Becoming Saint Launches on Mobile

Italian studio Open Lab has launched its historical strategy title Becoming Saint to mobile. Following its launch on Steam last summer, the Bad North-like title is now out on Android. The studio’s previous titles are Roller Drama and Football Drama.

Becoming Saint is set in 14th century medieval Italy

You play as a young woman preacher from Assisi in Italy, living about a hundred years after Saint Francis. Beginning with only a small group of supporters, you shape a creed drawn from the wide range of heretical beliefs circulating at the time.

From there, the goal is straightforward. You have to convert one small town at a time, expand influence across city-states, and attempt to achieve sainthood within a single lifetime.

Becoming Saint combines real-time strategy with roguelike structure and a strong narrative. You choose a doctrine and preach across medieval Italy. Expansion involves conquering towns and adding counties to a growing domain, increasing both power and influence.

Success opens up broader political and behavioural decisions that shape personal evolution. On the other hand, failure, including death, doesn’t end the experience. Instead, each run feeds into the next, with new challenges and strategies awaiting a fresh incarnation.

Before each confrontation, you select a set of units suited to the target location and deploy them within a chosen town. Once engaged, the encounter unfolds in an auto-battler-style system with an evolved rock-paper-scissors mechanic. Fights and conversions occur simultaneously.

Becoming Saint lets you unlock and recruit up to 16 different units, depending on doctrinal choices. Terrain plays a tactical role, and you can bless your own forces or curse opponents using saintly powers. Watch the latest trailers here.

Now’s your chance to pave a path to sainthood!

Becoming Saint offers management elements and personality tests. Each playthrough introduces different moral, cultural, and religious dilemmas. Although brief, the variety makes the game replayable. The game is now available on the Google Play Store for $4.99.
