Customer service jobs in Roblox horror are full of dangers. You might’ve sold shawarma, or smoothies, or checked passports. Now you need to work the grocery store night shift. We made this guide on how to play Scary Grocery The Night Shift, for help on one of the latest minimum wage nightmares on Roblox.

How To Play Scary Grocery The Night Shift

Okay, let’s explain.

The Basic Gist

You are a night shift worked in a small grocery store. Customers will arrive to buy food… but not all of them are human. You need to serve human customers, and dispatch the non-human ones, as well as keep the store clean and the shelves stocked. You need to meet a quota each night to keep your job. Survive 20 nights, and you win.

Controls

Now, we’re onto how to get around the store.

WASD Move
Shift Run (It doesn’t increase your speed a whole lot.)
E Interact with stock
F Grab Mop/Gun
LMB Use Mop/Gun
Q Drop Item

Serving Customers

Image for our guide on how to play Scary Grocery The Night Shift. It shows a view in-game, showing the register with a customer stood on the other side. The customer's ID appears on screen, and there are buttons underneath allowing the player to ask questions.

The first this you need to do is ring up the items. Interact with each of the items on the register to scan and bag them.

New comes the tricky part, checking if a customer is genuine. Their ID should show up on the monitor at the register. You need to check the following:

  • Check the name above their head matches the name on the ID.
  • Check their appearance matches the picture. (And isn’t some kind of horrifying Mandela Project uncanny valley abomination.)
  • Hit the ‘job?’ button under the register, and check their answer is correct. The customer usually won’t just tell you their job outright, and will give a vague answer. e.g, if the customer is a nurse, they might say ‘I help patients in hospital.’
  • Hit the ‘from?’ button to ask the customer their city of residence. They’re usually pretty straightfoward about answering this.
  • Hit the ‘age?’ button to ask the customer’s date of birth, so match the date. Keep in mind that this uses the american date format. (mm/dd/yy)

If the customer’s answer and details match the ID, they’re a customer, and you can just interact with the register to take their money and send them on their way.

If an answer doesn’t match, their name is wrong, or they look off… that’s a doppelganger. Then, it gets a little more complicated.

Eliminating Dopplegangers

Screenshot from Scary Grocery The Night Shift. It shows a view over the register after dispatching a doppelganger. The doppelganger lies ragdolled on the shop floor, and puddles of green goo behind it.

If a customer gives wrong answers to any of the questions, has a name that doesn’t match their ID, or looks… off… they’re a doppelganger, some inhuman creature trying to pass off as human to… get snacks, I guess? Either way, you’ll need to deal with them. There’s a handgun under the counter. Tough but fair, I guess. Grab it with F and fire on the impostor until they ragdoll across the store.

Once that’s done, you’ll need to use the mop bucket to your right to clean up the resulting mess, and then carry the deceased skinwalker out to the dumpster behind the store to get rid of it. (The health inspector would probably take a grim view of dead horrors lying around the store.)

Money, The Item Shop And Restocking

At the end of a shift, any money you earned over your daily quota stays in your pocket. During a shift, you can use it on the shopping terminal, directly opposite the register, to buy items.

  • Restock – $5
    • Drops off more stock to refill empty shelves.
  • Trap – $20
    • Stuns The Entity for a short period of time.
  • Medkit – $150
  • Boombox – $200

Each time a customer makes a purchase, they’ll empty a section of shelves. Make sure you buy Restocks frequently to make sure you have items to sell. Not doing that will impact badly on you.

The Entity

Screenshot from Scary Grocery The Night Shift. It shows The Entity approaching the player, a large creature with long spider-like legs, and a human-like head on upside-down.

If you mess up with your detective work… or don’t bother to make check… or you’re doing it deliberately to write a guide like I was, then you might let a doppelganger leave the store with their purchases. They leave and don’t come back, but apparently whatever they wanted to do with those packs of cookies and chips was extremely evil, because a little while after they leave, you’ll get the worrying message that The Entity is on its way.

You have thirty seconds to prepare for a boss fight. There are a few things you can do with your time.

  • Get away from the door! The Entity usually comes in view the front door, so you should try and back away from that to give you time to run.
  • Purchase traps and medkits. You should have time for the delivery to arrive before The Entity does, as long as you order quickly!
  • Get the gun. You are definitely going to need it.

When The Entity arrives, you’ll need to fight for your life, as it’ll chase and try to wipe out any player characters in the store. If someone goes down, you can get them back up with a medkit. If you can take its health down, The Entity should retreat… for now.

Random Events

Sometimes, just when you think you’ve got to grips with how to play Scary Grocery The Night Shift. unexpected things happen during your work night. Fortunately, you can get through all of them if you react accordingly.

Robber

An armed robber walks in and tries to hold up the grocery store. Obviously he wasn’t betting on the gun under the counter. Grab the gun and fire at him to get rid of him in the most decisive way possible.

Car Breakdown

The camera cuts to a car outside, which seems to come to an unexpected stop a little way down the road from the store. You’re told to go out and help. That doesn’t seem like a great idea, but do it anyway. When you’re close to the car, the driver should open up the door, and reveal a distinctly non-human face. That’s your cue to book it back to the store as far as your low poly legs can carry you. Don’t worry, he doesn’t follow you inside.

Small Creature

A spooky little shadow gremlin might appear around the store, peering at you from around the register, or other parts of the store. It doesn’t do you

Shadowy Figure

Sometimes when you do outside you might see a dark figure with glowing eyes watching you from a distance. You can safely ignore this, but it is kinda spooky.
