Gearbox Lays Out Its Borderlands 4 2026 Roadmap

This week, Gearbox Studios is starting small with its Borderlands 4 improvements by adding a photo mode. But that’s just the first step in the new content roadmap that will take Borderlands 4 through the third quarter of 2026 and beyond.

Gearbox shared most of the details on Borderlands’ official site. According to the developer, it has taken to heart fan requests for cross-save progression, more endgame content, and new activities. Gearbox is working on those features and the game’s performance and stability issues, in addition to planning a new Raid Boss, a Takedown, and more.

In February, Bounty Pack 2: Legend of the Stone Demon will launch with a new mission, new Legendary gear, and a themed Vault Card featuring 24 cosmetics and four rerollable pieces of gear that are unlocked through gameplay. It’s also going to introduce a new tier of gear that goes beyond Legendary: Pearlescent gear. All players will be able to get Pearlescent gear in Borderlands 4, but some of the best pieces will be exclusive to Bounty Pack 2. Note that unlike the first Bounty Pack, Legend of the Stone Demon is a paid DLC.

Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned will follow in March, and it will feature the introduction of the new Vault Hunter, C4SH. Ellie will play a big role in the story that shares her name as players embark on multiple missions that have a “cosmic horror theme with a bloodier, darker tone.”

Beyond those two updates, the Borderlands 4 content roadmap doesn’t have any firm windows for its upcoming releases beyond the second or third quarter of this year. But Gearbox did indicate that Vault Hunter level caps will be rising for all players across future updates, and there will be more free events added to Kairos, including a few seasonal events that will only be active for a limited time.

The next raid boss is tentatively set to arrive in the second quarter of this year, which will include a new arena and “powerful new rewards” for players who defeat them.

Gearbox also revealed that it plans to release major and minor updates throughout the year to handle bugs, balance issues, and any pressing changes that need to be made. Major updates will drop monthly, while minor updates will arrive weekly.

The currently untitled Story Pack 2 will arrive in the late third quarter of this year alongside a major update. But beyond that, Gearbox hasn’t revealed what’s coming in the fourth quarter of the year.
