28 Jan eSport Overwatch seemingly drops the ‘2’ ahead of Blizzard Showcase January 28, 2026 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment Blizzard Entertainment has released its first look at the upcoming Overwatch 2 developer livestream for the Blizzard Showcase event. In a 30-second trailer posted on social media, the upcoming showcase has noticeably omitted the ‘2’ from its title, advertising it as the ‘Overwatch Spotlight.’ Image credit: Blizzard Entertainment The omission has sparked speculation among the community, with some theories suggesting that Blizzard Entertainment may be stepping away from the sequel branding and moving forward as simply ‘Overwatch.’ However, only time will tell whether this small change indicates a much larger shift in the hero-shooter’s live service plan. On the other hand, it’s not the first time that Blizzard Entertainment has omitted the ‘2’ from its branding surrounding the game. Its esports scenes, including the Overwatch Champion Series and the revived Overwatch World Cup, notably omit the ‘2’ when promoting upcoming tournaments. The upcoming showcase has garnered a lot of hype from fans. This is because the past Overwatch 2 Spotlight revealed major changes in the game that affected both casual and esports scenes, including hero-perks, new playable characters, Stadium and more. It has become the latest marketing stunt from Blizzard Entertainment surrounding the hero shooter. A few days prior, Overwatch 2 socials saw a makeover, featuring logo’s from the in-game antagonistic faction, Talon. Ahead of the spotlight, the developers also published a new lore video called ‘Vested Interest’ starring Season 20’s newest character, Vendetta. What is the Blizzard Showcase? The Blizzard Showcase celebrates the developer’s 35th anniversary, featuring developer-lead livestreams covering what to expect from the future of its most popular franchises. On top of Overwatch 2, showcases are also scheduled for World of Warcraft, Hearthstone and Diablo. The Overwatch Spotlight event is scheduled to take place on February 4th, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM PT. The showcase will be available to watch on the official YouTube and Twitch channels.
