Former VALORANT and CS pro player Mixwell launches esports organisation

Former VALORANT and Counter-Strike professional player Óscar ‘mixwell’ Cañellas has launched his own esports organisation.

Titled Otakar Esports, the team will look to enter the VALORANT circuit with hopes of promoting Spanish players to tier one competition.

After revealing the new organisation during Red Bull Home Ground, a VALORANT OFF//SEASON tournament organised by energy drink brand Red Bull, Cañellas stated his intent to “have a Spanish team that starts from the very bottom.”

The former G2 Esports player highlighted a current lack of Spanish players competing in the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) as something he hopes to change, with aims to grow the Spanish scene and aid player development. He added that there are no immediate plans to enter other esports titles.

Mixwell will run the organisation as its Chief Executive Officer and has announced in a post on X that the team has actively begun searching for coaching staff.

The team has been created in collaboration with Red Bull, with Mixwell hinting at a partnership that will see the brand feature on official team jerseys during a stream discussing Otakar’s launch.

Previously a competitor in Counter-Strike for teams such as OpTic Gaming and Cloud9, Mixwell became one of the most recognisable names in VALORANT during his stints with G2 Esports and Team Heretics. Since his retirement in 2023, the Spaniard continued his attachment with Heretics, as he moved into a streaming and content creation role.

He left the organisation in September of this year following the expiration of his contract, citing incompatibility between his future projects and his association with the organisation as the reason for his departure.

In starting his own esports organisation, Cañellas joins the likes of Ibai Llanos and Kamel ‘Kameto’ Kebir as well-known streamers who used their popularity as a foundation to launch their own esports teams. Earlier this month, British League of Legends streamer Marc Robert ‘Caedrel’ Lamont also revealed his own esports organisation Los Ratones, a team featuring well-known players and streamers set to compete in tier two tournaments.
