Teamfight Tactics heads to Macau for TFT Open LAN event

Game publisher Riot Games has announced that its second TFT Open LAN event will take place in Macau, China.

Occurring December 13th – 15th, the Macau Open will feature 512 players competing for a share of its $300,000 (~£231,000) prize pool. According to a release, the top 128 players will receive prize money, with the best player winning $100,000 (~£77,000).

The Macau Open is the second Open LAN event for Teamfight Tactics, following the first-ever live event which took place in Las Vegas last year.

The Main Event will be played on Set 13, with 512 competitors fighting across three days to determine the champion. Importantly, the ticketing process for the event takes into account player rank and past tournament participation.

To enter the main tournament, players will have to purchase the Competitor Bundle which is priced at $399 (~£307). However, high-ranked players can receive discounts of up to $200 (~£153).

The ticket sale window has also been staggered with participants in Tactician’s Crown events from Set 9 to 11 being the first to be offered tickets on September 3rd. This is followed by Challengers (September 4th), Grandmasters and Masters (September 5th), and then general competitors September 6th). The cutoff date for Set 12 ranked snapshots is September 2nd.

This year’s format will see players initially seeded based on Set 12’s Magic n’ Mayhem ranking. After Round One, the seeding will be decided based on the points earned throughout the tournament based on the results of each game. Each round, the players will be split into lobbies of eight and play three games each, with the top four points scorers advancing to the next round.

After a total of six rounds, the top eight will compete in one last lobby, with the first player to earn 20 points becoming TFT Macao Open Champion.

Riot is also selling Spectators passes for those who are not looking to compete. Priced at $150 (~£115), spectators will get access to ‘Side Events’ and other onsite activities like meet and greets and panels. Side Events will see free game stations at the event be converted into fun modes such as 4v4, Mastermind (a 1v1 mode with each player using 4 PCs at once), and ‘exclusive game modes’.
