Announcing the decision on Twitter, Strenczewilk explained that he would “take some time to refocus” and see what his next move would be, “both in gaming & outside of it.” He had taken months to consider the move, ultimately deciding that he’s “ready for a new challenge.”

Strenczewilk co-founded Splyce in April 2015 and served as the organisation’s CEO until February 2019. The organisation was fully acquired by OverActive Media in late 2018, following an initial investment of $1.5 million (£1.07 million) earlier that year.

OverActive Media announced that Splyce would no longer exist in Riot Games’ LEC in November last year, choosing to rebrand the team to Spanish brand MAD Lions. This meant that Splyce would be made inactive, no longer housing any teams.

Just minutes before the announcement was made, Esports Insider spoke with Chris Overholt, President and CEO of OverActive Media, to discuss the decision. When asked whether Splyce will return at some point, he said that “For now Splyce will be sunset but, again, as we continue to build out our business around the globe, you never know – Splyce could emerge again.”

Esports Insider says: What Strenczewilk built can’t be understated, Splyce was a prominent brand in the industry and was ultimately attractive enough to be bought out entirely. We’re intrigued to see if he takes on another project in esports but, either way, we wish him the best of luck with whatever’s next.
