02 Jul eSport ESL One Hamburg to host Clash of Clans World Championship July 2, 2019 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment ESL One Hamburg has added another tournament to its lineup, announcing that the Clash of Clans World Championship will take place at the start of the weekend. Photo credit: ESL It was announced in February that ESL would play host to the Clash of Clans World Championship, starting with monthly online qualifiers in March. The finals of the tournament will be played before the Dota 2 action gets underway. Ulrich Schulze, Senior Vice President of Product at ESL discussed the decision to include Clash of Clans in the event: “We at ESL envision that the passion for gaming bounds everybody together, regardless of platform, game or device. Mobile esports is by far not just a trend, but already shaping the industry noticeably. Mobile games have become an indispensable part of esports already and we are proud to support this new segment on all levels, from zero to hero.” The World Championship will see six qualifying teams and two wildcard squads compete for a total prize pool of $1 million (£791,050). The wildcard participants will be chosen by the Clash of Clans community. We strive to create games that our players enjoy for years and years, and we’ve partnered with ESL, who has an incredible track record in producingesports tournaments, to create an all-new competitive experience for our community so they have new ways to play, watch and join in on the fun of Clash of Clans.” ESL One Hamburg will also be the home of the first offline Dota Underlords competition. The official take on Dota Auto Chess by Valve, the game was released on June 14th and will have a €5,000 (£4,400) prize pool for its first LAN event. The main attraction at the German event, however, will be the Dota 2 event. 12 teams will head to Hamburg to compete for the lion’s share of $300,000 (£237,369). Esports Insider says: We knew the World Championship was coming but it wasn’t confirmed for Hamburg previously, so this finally allows fans to get their tickets and actually get excited! ESL One Hamburg is poised to be an event that’s different to most when you consider the inclusion of Underlords and now Clash of Clans, in addition to the usual top-tier Dota 2 action.
