24 May eSport Super Evil Megacorp steps back from Vainglory esports May 24, 2019 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment Super Evil Megacorp has announced that it’s reeling back its esports support for mobile MOBA title Vainglory. The developer explained its “decision to shift away from” the game’s competitive scene in a blog post. Photo credit: Super Evil Megacorp The reasoning behind the decision is a change in interest for the company, having already turned to third-party organisations to run Vainglory’s esports events last year. Previous to that, it was operating the Vainglory Premier League with the likes of Team SoloMid, Cloud9, and SK Gaming. The company explained further in the announcement: “The passion we had and the experiences we tried to create for our most engaged community fueled our passion to build the esports programme; but it very quickly became clear that the planning, resourcing and running of our esports events sapped huge amounts of time away from our development team and ultimately the development of the game itself. “We will continue to support esports initiatives when they present themselves but the mainstay of our focus will always be on the development of rich and engaging gaming experiences such as Vainglory itself.” Esports Insider says: This may seem like a big step back for Vainglory esports but a better game should deliver its own positives that could, in theory, help to improve the game’s level of competition. We’re interested to see just how supportive Super Evil Megacorp proves to be moving forward, surely it knows that esports is a big component of marketing a game and cultivating an audience around it.
