Psyonix gears up to introduce Rocket League revenue-sharing


Psyonix is set to introduce a revenue-sharing esports shop to Rocket League on April 16th, with a cut of the proceeds going directly to teams.

The shop will contain in-game items that feature the branding of teams that compete in the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS).

At time of writing, Psyonix has not made it clear as to which organisations will have their branding featured on in-game items – which are also yet to be revealed. Details surrounding such items, and how they look, are to be released next week.

Season 7 of RLCS kicks off on April 6th with the North American teams facing off against each other; the European and South American squads will follow that up the next day. The Oceanic region is also included in the competition, though the participants are yet to be decided upon.

The most recent news – besides the esports shop finally having a release date – to come from Rocket League esports is the entrance of FC Barcelona. The Spanish football club announced the signing of ‘Savage!’ roster and will compete in the European RLCS, debuting against Dignitas.

Just last month, Ubisoft expanded its revenue-sharing program for Rainbow Six Siege with a second phase. Operating much like Psyonix’s proposed esports shop will, Siege’s program will support up to 16 teams from June 2019 to May 2020.

PUBG Corp. has also just rolled out a revenue-sharing scheme for its upcoming global event, the FACEIT Global Summit: PUBG Classic. Hosted over April 16th-21st, event-branded in-game items are now available for purchase; 25% of the proceeds will go straight to the 24 teams in attendance.

Esports Insider says: It’s good to see Psyonix finally get the esports shop ready for launch considering how vocal some organisations were in 2018 about the lack of support they’ve received. Teams in Rainbow Six Siege received Ubisoft’s profit-sharing initiative well and we hope that ends up being the case here too.
