Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt Opens Pre-Registration on Android

HandyGames is bringing one of its well-known strategy titles back to phones. The title I’m talking about is Townsmen, and it’s now Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt, a remastered version for mobile. The original game released in 2004, and was Java-based.

Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt was first released on Nintendo Switch in November 2018. It was later released for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Netflix dropped the mobile version in May 2022, requiring a Netflix subscription to play it, of course. However, Netflix removed the title from its Games Store in December 2025.

And now, Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt is coming to Android as a standalone!

Pre-registration is open on the Google Play Store. It’s a Try Before You Buy title. You can install it for free and work through a full tutorial that introduces governance, construction, and economic systems.

Alongside that, you get access to a limited-time trial of the first Scenario and a Sandbox map. The full game, meanwhile, offers endless mode, all scenarios, and the Seaside Empire DLC. Catch a glimpse of the new version here.

Gameplay revolves around scaling a small settlement into something far larger, with more than 150 unique buildings available over time. Resource management requires you to oversee processes such as farming wheat and baking bread or mining iron and forging weapons.

Your citizens, referred to as Townies, follow daily routines and have expectations that influence productivity and tax income. Meanwhile, seasonal changes affect planning. Like winter demanding stockpiles and summer introducing different resource pressures.

On top of that, random challenges such as plagues, fires, and bandit attacks can disrupt progress. There are also defensive structures like watchtowers and barracks that become necessary as threats increase. The tile includes multiple ways to play, from scenario-based missions to an unrestricted Sandbox mode.
