05 Mar Mobile Gaming War Thunder Adds Rank IX Jets and World War II Legends Like USS Helm March 5, 2026 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment Hungarian game studio Gaijin Entertainment has revealed the Ninth Wave major update for its military action game. War Thunder is getting Rank IX jets and WWII legend ships in this update. Basically, you’ll now get more technologically advanced combat aircraft in the game. What’s new in this update? Apart from the introduction of Rank IX, it brings a selection of generation 4+ aircraft, such as the F/A-18F and Su-30SM2. You’ll also see Hungarian planes integrated into the Italian aviation research tree and a wide range of new vehicles across ground, air, and naval forces. Among the naval additions is the American destroyer Helm. It’s historically known as one of the first ships to respond to enemy forces during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The update also drops visual overhauls for some of the game’s classic maps. The addition of Rank IX represents more technologically advanced combat aircraft in War Thunder. One of the key additions at this rank is the F-16C Block 5. It’s an upgraded version of the well-known Fighting Falcon used by the United States and exported to allied countries. The aircraft introduces an AESA radar system and the new AIM-120D ARH missiles for long-range engagements. It also has an expanded air-to-surface arsenal that includes the LJDAM family of guided bombs. The jet also features a helmet-mounted display system and a new, more powerful engine. Another modern aircraft appearing in the update is the Australian F/A-18F Super Hornet. A two-seat version of the well-known fighter-bomber is capable of carrying a substantial loadout for multiple mission types. Historically, these aircraft were delivered to the Australian Air Force between 2010 and 2012, and they were later used in Iraq in 2014.
