Blizzard Unveils Overwatch Rush, a Mobile Top-Down Hero Shooter

Diablo creator Blizzard has revealed a new project called Overwatch Rush. Set in its hero shooter universe, the game is built specifically for mobile. The team plans to share progress updates for the top-down hero shooter throughout its development.

Blizzard has created a separate internal team for Overwatch Rush

This team operates separately from Team 4, the studio division responsible for Overwatch on PC and consoles. Overwatch Rush is being built from the ground up for iOS and Android devices.

The gameplay shifts from the standard 5v5 format to 4v4 matches. It offers a new camera perspective positioned above the battlefield. Meanwhile, it might also include recognisable objectives like Control.

Blizzard has released a three-minute gameplay clip for Overwatch Rush. It shows two teams of four characters competing on the Busan map from the original game. It features familiar characters such as Tracer, Soldier: 76, Reinhardt, Reaper, Mercy, and Lucio. Watch it right here!

Blizzard has confirmed that Overwatch Rush will follow a free-to-play model consistent with the franchise’s current strategy. The studio hasn’t disclosed the release date yet. On the other hand, testing for the game will begin in select countries and regions soon. You can learn more about this game on the official website.

Meanwhile, the base game recently entered its 21st season, also referred to as Season 1 and titled The Reign of Talon. It introduced five new heroes: Domina, a tank; Emre, a damage hero; and Mizuki, a support hero.

They’re all aligned with Talon, alongside Anran, a damage hero, and Jetpack Cat, a support hero on Overwatch’s side. According to the current roadmap, each of Seasons 2 to 6 will add a new hero, and a new story arc is planned for 2027.
