PGL Wallachia Season 7 preview: teams, prize pool, format and more

The Dota 2 scene is firing up, as some of the top teams set their sights on PGL Wallachia Season 7. As the first Dota 2 event organised by PGL this year, the highly anticipated tournament will be an early indicator of the state of the scene and the strongest teams so far in 2026.

With the qualifiers concluded, some of the top teams that defined 2025 are set to gather in Bucharest, Romania to secure their name in PGL history. With past champions, international winners and regional underdogs, action-packed matches await later in March.

From the top teams to keep an eye on, to the format of the tournament, and the prize pool distribution, here is everything to know about PGL Wallachia Season 7.

PGL Wallachia Season 7 will start with the Group Stage on March 7th and conclude with the Grand Finals on March 15th, 2026.

The seventh edition of the Dota 2 tournament will be held as an offline LAN event, with matches taking place in the PGL Studio in Bucharest, Romania, on the Europe West server.

Season 7 is the first of three PGL Wallachia Dota 2 events planned for the 2026 season, and will conclude a week before ESL One Birmingham begins.

Sixteen teams, both invited and qualified, will face off across various stages to claim the lion’s share of PGL Wallachia Season 7’s $1m (~£729,710) prize pool.

Twelve teams have accepted invitations sent by PGL, which were revealed back on January 26th, 2026. These include well-known organisations that defined 2025, including OG, Natus Vincere and Aurora Gaming, alongside The International champions like Team Falcons.

The rest have earned their place in PGL Wallachia Season 7 by winning regional qualifiers. The competitions took place in the Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Asia, with teams clawing their way through open and closed qualifiers. Four teams emerged victorious, including organisations such as HEROIC, and non-backed rosters such as Power Rangers.

Undoubtedly, one of the top teams heading into the tournament is the PGL Wallachia Season 6 champion MOUZ, which defeated Team Spirit 3-2 in the Grand Finals. Only time will tell whether MOUZ will defend its title this time around.

Team Liquid is another standout team as the only organisation to have won PGL Wallachia in more than one season. It has a long history in Dota 2, including being the 2024 and 2017 The International champions and the first team to break Tundra Esports’ winning streak in the BLAST Slam series.

Yellow Submarine and Power Rangers stand out as the only non-organisation-backed teams competing in the competition. However, both were able to beat teams like Virtus.pro and Zero tenacity in Western Europe, and AVULUS and 1w Team in Eastern Europe, respectively, and so could prove to be the dark horses of the tournament.

PGL Wallachia Season 27 will begin with the Group Stage. Sixteen organisations will compete in a modified Swiss system, where team matchups will be determined by performance as the tournament progresses. A team is automatically eliminated after three losses or advances after three wins.

Matches in the Group Stage are best-of-three, and only the top eight teams will move on to the Playoffs, while the rest are eliminated.

Afterwards, the Playoffs will shift into a double-elimination bracket, where teams will fight for one of two spots in the Grand Finals. After a best-of-five showdown, only one team will walk away with the lion’s share of the $1m prize pool.

Unlike other Dota 2 tournaments such as The Internationals, PGL Wallachia does not feature a live crowd. However, matches between teams during the Bucharest tournament will be broadcast live on the official PGL Dota 2 Twitch, Kick and YouTube channels.

Teams will play for the lion’s share of a $1m prize pool, with the Season 7 champions receiving $300,000 in winnings. Unlike other circuits, such as the ESL Pro Tour, points will not be allocated to teams to influence qualification for future events.

The tournament is part of the PGL’s $13m (~£9.6m) commitment to supporting the MOBA game’s wider esports ecosystem, which pledges $1m in prize pool funds to 13 tournaments from 2025 to 2028.

Once PGL Wallachia Season 7 concludes, only two more seasons will take place in 2026. Season 8 will be held from April 16th to 26th, and Season 9 is scheduled for September 17th to 27th, both in Bucharest, Romania.
