These New Analogue 3D Consoles Are Reviving A Secret Part Of N64 History

Analogue launched its 4K N64 emulator last year, and the console quickly earned praise as one of the best modern devices for playing old-school Nintendo games. The consoles are available in black and white colorways, but the limited-edition models featuring “funtastic” colors are sold out. The good news is that a brand-new line of Analogue 3D console colorways are going up for preorder on February 9, and they’ll ship soon after.

Priced at $300, these five variants feature colors that were officially prototyped for the original Nintendo 64, but were never released. Analogue CEO Christopher Taber added that they were manufactured but never released, and the company has managed to color-match them perfectly. “We’re finishing history, decades later,” Taber said.

There’ll be five colors to choose from: Extreme Green, Atomic Purple, Ocean, Ghost, and Glacier. Each Analogue 3D will be priced at $300 and will ship within 24-48 hours of purchase. Analogue will also sell color-matching 8BitDo 64 controllers for $45 each, which are expected to ship in April. Like last year’s line of retro-themed Analogue 3D consoles, expect these to sell out very fast once preorders open on February 9 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.

If you’re too late to grab one of these, a regular Analogue 3D in black or white is available for $269. Retro enthusiasts have given the FPGA device plenty of praise, as it delivers an authentic N64 gameplay experience in 4K resolution on modern displays. It also supports all original N64 accessories and offers various display modes that accurately reproduce the look of an old television set.
