This week’s free mobile game on the Epic Games Store is Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate. The freebie is available until Christmas Day, December 25th, 2025, ending at 9:30 PM. It’s available for Android players worldwide.

As you know, the Epic Games Store usually delivers one or two free games every week on both mobile and PC. Since it’s the holiday season, this week is bringing a little extra to the table. The store is running a daily free game promotion apart from the usual weekly one. It’s only for PC, and the games are labelled as mystery games.

Coming back to this week’s mobile freebie on the Epic Games Store, Shotgun King is a turn-based roguelike strategy title. Originally released in 2022 on PC before being ported to console and mobile, it’s chess, but with gunfight mechanics.

Instead of commanding a full army, you control only the black king, who is armed with a shotgun. Every other piece has defected to the white side. Chess with a shotgun, each run has a lone king trying to survive, reload, and fight back against overwhelming odds.

Each turn forces a decision between moving the king or firing the shotgun at enemy pieces. Shooting clears the weapon but costs a turn, so the king must move again to reload before firing once more. The goal on every floor is to avoid checkmate and eliminate the white king.

After completing a floor, you get two random upgrade combinations. Each pair offers one benefit for the player with one upgrade for the opposing side. Progressing through floors and surviving the trade-offs is the king’s attempt to reclaim his fallen kingdom after a dark folly and wounded pride.
