Iron Lung Is Now Available on Mobile, Just Weeks Before the Film Adaptation’s Release

Iron Lung was originally released in 2022 as a submarine simulation horror title developed and published by David Szymanski. The title is even getting a movie adaptation, releasing on January 30th, 2026. And just before that, the game has quietly launched on Android.

Szymanski has also developed titles like DUSK, The Moon Sliver, and Gloomwood. As for the upcoming movie, American YouTuber Mark Fischbach, aka Markiplier, is self-financing and starring in it. He has also written the script himself, with screenplay assistance from Szymanski.

Iron Lung traps the player in an atmosphere of constant dread

It’s a compact horror experience that places you inside a cramped, one-person submarine with almost no visibility. The setting is a small, rusty midget submarine nicknamed the Iron Lung. It’s piloted by an unnamed convict and viewed from a first-person perspective.

The submarine consists of a single room with very limited space to move. There is only one porthole, and it must remain closed due to extreme depth pressure, so you cannot look directly outside. Navigation relies on an incomplete map, proximity sensors, sound cues, and a primitive external camera.

On an otherwise barren moon, you’ll also find a Blood Ocean. It’s an ocean composed entirely of blood. Your role is to investigate such locations in the game using the ageing submarine assembled from rusty space station parts.

All in all, Iron Lung requires careful resource management and attention to limited instruments. With its oppressive atmosphere, the game builds fear through uncertainty. The focus on isolation, limited information, and constant vulnerability is what made the game a hit among horror fans.
