Many players, myself included, find themselves stumped on the encounter chance for Hot Cocoa. Such a simple delicacy escapes the hooks of rods throughout every server. But why? This guide answers that and, more importantly, tells you how to get Hot Cocoa in Fisch.

How to get Hot Cocoa in Fisch

To catch Hot Cocoa in Fisch, you need a lower luck rod. Most servers I’ve been in have had players with amazing late-game rods such as the Onirifalx (for example), which has a natural high luck that completely negates the Hot Cocoas encounter chance.

Pretend for a moment that the Hot Cocoa is a common-rarity fish that has a 1 in 1 encounter chance. The Onirifalx is so high luck that it almost completely ignores anything so common to find.

It’s tricky to say much more than this since Hot Cocoa has no fish radar abunances, and most players are experiencing a total dry spell when trying to find this elusive beverage.

I also tried seeing if the game registers other obtainment routes as a catch for the Santa Quest, which turned up empty. Being gifted, opening Fischmas Presents, and having other players catch a Hot Cocoa with the Santa’s Miracle Rod, do not count towards the quest…

Hot Cocoa Preferences

Hot Cocoa is a simple… creature? With only a preference for Clear skies and Winter.

When hooked on a line, players receive a +15% Progression Speed buff. This is a good indicator of whether or not your catch is the Hot Cocoa.

Being a drink and non-living, Hot Cocoa is easy to catch, once you actually encounter it, as it doesn’t move around the bar much.

Why You Need Hot Cocoa

Hot Cocoa appears as the 4th of 6 in Santa’s Questline. He requests you fish and return x6 Hot Cocoas for himself, Carbon, and the four elves in his Toy Factory. Seems simple enough, given quests prior made you fish up other easy-to-encounter Fischmas items, such as Egg Nog and Gingerbread Men.

For completing this quest, players earn the Turbo Sleigh Boat.

However, there is also the more obvious reason, being players wanting to complete the Fischmas 2 Bestiary.

Why Is It So Challenging?

This part is a little more obscure, as Hot Cocoa realistically shouldn’t be a difficult catch.

I believe it’s largely due to most players having exceptional rods that are a little too good for Hot Cocoa. After all, it’s not a living thing, so it shouldn’t require much luck, control, or resilience to catch.

I found that using a rod with lesser luck (I chose the Firework Rod) helped increase my Hot Cocoa encounter chances. But whether this was due to the rod or something unseen, I’m not certain.
