The game lets you restore a childhood wetland and turn it into a functioning refuge where amphibians can thrive. Developed by Humble Reeds, it revolves around nature, friendship, and stewardship.

There’s farming, photography, decoration, and light management. You get to foster a sanctuary for frogs by restoring wetlands, rebuilding ponds, and encouraging biodiversity. The game includes over 500 unique frogs to discover with different appearances and behaviours.

Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge also includes paludiculture, an actual wetland farming process. It’s used in the game to justify planting native species, harvesting sustainable crops, and crafting goods. You can sell these manufactured items to improve the refuge further.

Digging ponds allows water to flow back into the land, while canals and plant placement influence how hospitable the space becomes. Meanwhile, attracting frogs requires you to experiment with habitat layouts, food, and breeding.

Photography is a major part of Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge

You can use an in-game camera to snap pictures of frogs as you arrive and interact with the environment, gradually filling out a Frogedex. You can decorate the wetlands with walkways, fences, structures, and furniture. It also draws attention from NPCs and new visitors, expanding the social side of the refuge.
