Best Android PS2 Emulators – Updated!

PlayStation 2 emulation on Android was once considered the Holy Grail of portable emulation, and it’s finally possible. With the best Android PS2 emulator, you’ll be able to re-experience your favourite PlayStation games on the go. Well, if you have the power of course. 

But what is the best Android PS2 emulator? And how do you use it? Well, that’s what this entire article is about! So, strap in! 

NetherSX2 

In the past, we might have pinned the AetherSX2 emulator as the best PS2 emulator, alas that was a simpler time.

Unfortunately, active development ceased on the AetherSX2, and it’s no longer available through Google Play. Scam sites are rife with claims to supply the latest copy of the emulator, but are going to largely just lead you to a bunch of malware and no good answers.

NetherSX2 is reverse-engineered from AetherSX2, but manages to avoid some of the later-introduced downgrades the emulator suffered, as well as surpass it in a few meaningful ways. The updates on Nether continue, so we’d say that that’s a good bet if you don’t mind a bit of extra setup.

ARMSX2

While NetherSX2 is an attempt to continue AetherSX2, ARMSX2 is a different beast, developed by a new team, with some help from the devs behind PCSX2. This emulator is comparatively new, and still has a few teething problems, but it’s already demonstrated a solid foundation.

Also important for anyone not wanting to mess around with APKs and getting stuff from github, ARMS has a google play listing. Free, with no ads to worry about, which makes it the more simple of the two to get hold of.

What Are The Alternatives?

If you’re looking for a Play Store app, then there’s PPSS22, which has some fairly good reviews. Its title seems similar to the PSP emulator PPSSPP, but this does not appear to be from the same dev. There are quite a few complaints about ads within the app, and it doesn’t look like there’s an ad-free one up for grabs. So, proceed with caution!
